Eyelid surgery in Bosnia and Herzegovina

You may be considering eyelid surgery because of hooded skin, eye bags or a heavy feeling around your eyes. A careful consultation helps separate the change you want from an eye or eyelid problem that needs a different kind of care.

The surgeon assesses your eyes and eyelids, explains the options and directs aftercare.

At a glance

Procedure

Upper and lower eyelid operations address different tissues.

Goals

Appearance and a medically assessed visual obstruction are different concerns.

Decision

Not having surgery remains an option.

Recovery

Plan help with travel and the early clinical review.

What blepharoplasty changes

Blepharoplasty removes or repositions excess eyelid tissue. Upper-lid surgery usually places an incision in the crease; lower-lid surgery may use an incision beneath the lashes or inside the lid to address fat and sometimes skin. The exact technique depends on the concern.

Hooding can involve upper-lid skin, eyebrow position or a drooping eyelid. Skin removal does not necessarily correct a low brow or the mechanism that lifts the lid. The consultation needs to distinguish these problems.

Cosmetic surgery is not a general cure for poor eyesight. If tissue obstructs your field of vision, an eye assessment can establish the cause and appropriate treatment.

Confirm the procedure and place of care

Confirm the operating location, surgeon and whether the proposal covers upper lids, lower lids or both. A clinic group may use different facilities for different procedures.

Use the consultation to set your own goal

Describe the change that bothers you and what you hope would be different afterwards. It is reasonable to want a modest change, to take time deciding or to decide against surgery. Photographs of someone else’s result cannot predict yours.

Tell the surgeon about medicines, previous eye operations, contact lenses and eye disease. Dry eyes are especially relevant when assessing eyelid function and surgical risks.

There should be time to discuss alternatives, limitations and both eyelids together. If extra procedures are suggested, understand their separate purpose before consenting. The consultation is not a commitment to an operation.

Recovery needs room in the plan

Bruising, swelling and irritation can follow surgery. Vision and comfort may temporarily affect reading, driving and working. Follow the surgeon’s advice about cleaning, prescribed drops, contact lenses, exercise and protection from sun or wind.

Choose accommodation where you can rest and obtain food without a demanding journey. Arrange accompaniment if needed after the anaesthetic, and leave time for the planned wound or stitch review. Your companion can plan their own activities while you recover.

Obtain a written aftercare plan before departure, including clinical contacts, the next review and who can examine you at home. Decisions about return travel depend on your operation and recovery, rather than a standard holiday timetable.

Risks worth discussing openly

Possible problems include asymmetry, noticeable scars, difficulty closing the eyes, infection or dissatisfaction with the result. Lower-lid surgery can leave the lid pulling away from the eye. Additional treatment may be necessary.

Bleeding within the eye socket can threaten sight. Sudden vision loss or deterioration, severe eye pain or rapidly increasing swelling after surgery needs immediate local emergency assessment. Do not wait for the next appointment or a website response.

Compare the complete proposal

  • Assessment and the exact upper, lower or combined procedure
  • Surgeon, anaesthetic, facility and any overnight care
  • Medicines, wound or stitch checks and clinical follow-up
  • Support and charges if a complication occurs
  • Terms for further surgery if the result is unsatisfactory
  • Accommodation, accompaniment and return travel

The proposal should distinguish surgery you have chosen from optional additional work. Take time to read the consent information without pressure from travel dates.

Common questions

Will it improve my eyesight?

Only an examination can establish whether eyelid tissue is obstructing vision and whether this operation addresses it. Cosmetic blepharoplasty does not treat every cause of poor sight.

Will all the lines around my eyes disappear?

No. Surgery addresses selected tissue, does not stop ageing and may not correct brow position. Agree a realistic aim with the surgeon.

Can I have the consultation and operation on the same trip?

The assessment, time to consider consent and early reviews need to fit the actual plan. Keep the decision about surgery open until you have understood the recommendation, risks and alternatives.
