If you are insured elsewhere, check the arrangements with your national health insurer. Do not assume they cover planned treatment or private care. Before booking, tell your insurer that you are travelling for planned treatment. Ask the insurer to confirm in writing what is covered and excluded: the planned procedure, complications, routine aftercare and repeat visits, an extended stay, medical evacuation and repatriation. Check limits, excesses and any need for prior authorisation. Do not assume that ordinary holiday insurance covers problems arising from planned treatment.
Choose accommodation for the appointments and recovery, not just the room price. Check distance from the clinic, steps and lift access, the bathroom, companion space and transport. Your treating team advises how long to stay nearby and when travel is appropriate. Check meal arrangements, any dietary needs advised by your team, and whether your companion can stay with you. A hotel booking does not itself include nursing or help with personal care.
Agree the language for appointments and written information with the clinic. Confirm the interpreting or accessibility support you need and include its cost in your plans. Before booking, confirm who provides interpreting and transport, their availability and charges, and what happens if appointments change. If clinical or nursing support is needed, agree it separately with the treating provider.
