Breast lift in Bosnia and Herzegovina

If your breast shape has changed, a lift may be one option. The decision involves the shape you want, the scars you are willing to accept and how surgery fits with future pregnancy, daily responsibilities and recovery.

The plastic surgeon recommends the operation and remains responsible for clinical care.

At a glance

Purpose

Reshape the breast and raise the nipple position.

Choice

A lift, reduction and augmentation address different goals.

Trade-off

Incisions leave permanent scars, even when they fade.

Planning

Allow for wound reviews, support at home and individual travel advice.

Start with shape, rather than a cup size

A breast lift, or mastopexy, removes excess skin, reshapes breast tissue and raises the nipples. A lift alone does not usually increase breast size. Augmentation adds volume; reduction removes tissue to make breasts smaller. Combining procedures changes the operation and the risks.

Describe what matters most: nipple position, how clothing fits, loss of fullness or a difference between the two breasts. A reference photograph can help explain a preference, but your anatomy determines what is achievable. You can also decide to leave things as they are; there is no deadline to make this choice.

The scar belongs in the decision

Depending on the skin and nipple position, the incision may go around the areola, down towards the breast crease and sometimes along that crease. The surgeon should show you the planned pattern on your own breasts. A smaller scar is not automatically a suitable operation.

Scars are permanent. They may soften and fade, but some become thick or wide. Breast and nipple shape can remain uneven, and the result can change with pregnancy, weight changes and ageing. Consider whether the likely improvement is worth those lasting trade-offs.

Confirm the operation and place of care

Your proposal should say whether you are considering a lift, a reduction or a combined operation, and where it would take place.

Choose around the proposed surgeon, operating setting and review arrangements as well as the location. A useful consultation leaves time to discuss alternatives and consent before you commit to an operation or non-refundable travel.

Prepare a complete proposal

Previous breast surgery, medicines, smoking, pregnancy plans and relevant mammogram or biopsy results belong in the clinical assessment. The surgeon examines skin quality and nipple position. Do not stop prescribed medicines yourself; any change needs instructions from the treating clinician.

  • The named operation, surgeon and operating facility
  • Anaesthetic, investigations and any overnight care
  • Dressings, support garment and scheduled wound reviews
  • Responsibility and charges for complications or revision
  • Accommodation, transport, companion support and a longer stay if needed

An implant should appear as a separate, explained decision if it is proposed. Compare the whole treatment plan, including ongoing implant care where relevant, rather than treating every breast operation as the same package.

Recovery needs more than a flight date

You may need help with washing, lifting and everyday tasks while the wounds heal. Dressing changes, drains or stitch removal depend on the operation. Keep the planned review before departure and use the surgeon’s advice for activity, support garments and travel.

Bleeding, infection, wound problems, changes in sensation and loss of skin or nipple tissue can occur. Breastfeeding may be affected. These risks need an individual discussion, especially after previous surgery or where blood supply or healing is a concern.

Contact the surgical team promptly for rapidly increasing breast swelling, fever, wound discharge or worsening pain. A painful swollen calf needs urgent assessment. Chest pain or breathlessness requires emergency care where you are, rather than waiting for an online reply.

Before returning home, have the operation record, wound instructions and a direct clinical contact. Arrange a clinician willing to see you if a wound needs attention; a coordinator cannot examine a breast or manage a surgical complication.

Common questions

Can a lift replace implants?

A lift changes shape and nipple position using your existing tissue. It does not provide the same volume increase as an implant. The right comparison depends on the change you want, rather than assuming that implants are part of a lift.

What if I plan another pregnancy?

Pregnancy can change the breast shape again. Discuss timing while deciding whether surgery makes sense now, including possible effects on breastfeeding and the possibility of later treatment.

Are further corrections included?

The written terms should distinguish urgent complication care from later revision for shape or scars. Confirm who provides that care, where it takes place and what you would pay; another journey may still be needed even when a surgical fee is waived.
