Hair transplant in Bosnia and Herzegovina

A hair transplant is a surgical decision that deserves time and a conversation with the clinician who would treat you. You may still be weighing up whether surgery is right for you. Start with the cause of your hair loss and what a realistic result could look like.

The clinician assesses your hair loss and explains the treatment options; a package or technique name cannot make that decision for you.

At a glance

Purpose

Redistribute existing hair to an area with thinning or hair loss.

Assessment

The cause of hair loss and the donor area matter to the plan.

Results

Visible growth develops over months, rather than appearing immediately.

Comparison

Check the responsible surgeon, the method and the aftercare, as well as the proposed graft count.

What a hair transplant involves

A graft contains one or more hair follicles (the structures from which hairs grow) moved from a donor area to the area being treated. A transplant redistributes existing hair. FUE, or follicular unit excision, removes individual groups of follicles and leaves small scattered scars. FUT, often called the strip method, removes a strip of scalp containing hair, which is divided into grafts, and leaves a line-shaped scar. Neither procedure is scar-free.

DHI stands for direct hair implantation. It describes an implantation technique, rather than proving that a result will be better. Ask how grafts will be taken from the donor area and how they will be placed.

The proposal should make clear who performs each surgical step, their qualifications and why the recommended method suits your case.

Start with the cause of hair loss

A transplant is not suitable for every type of hair loss. Your assessment should consider the diagnosis, donor hair and likely future hair loss. Ask about non-surgical options, the option of waiting and what surgery can realistically achieve. Hair around a transplant may continue to thin, so longer-term planning matters.

Bring your questions about the appearance you want and the concerns you have. Ask what can be assessed remotely and what must wait for an in-person consultation. A sales discussion should not be your only opportunity to speak with the responsible clinician.

Know who will be treating you

Before committing, request the clinician’s name, relevant qualifications and current authority to practise. Ask which parts of the procedure they will perform personally, which staff assist and what the clinic’s arrangements are if a complication occurs.

If you are shown photographs, ask whether they are the treating clinician’s own patients, when the photographs were taken and whether the cases are comparable to yours. Images should help a discussion about realistic expectations. They cannot guarantee your result.

Compare more than a graft count

Ask the clinic to explain how it defines and counts a graft, how the proposed range will be confirmed and whether an examination could change the price.

Compare these items alongside the surgical fee:

  • Consultation and any assessment requested by the clinician
  • Who performs the procedure and where it takes place
  • Medicines, dressings and planned reviews
  • Written aftercare instructions and clinical contact arrangements
  • Accommodation, transfers and language support
  • Costs if you need further assessment, an extended stay or another visit

The largest advertised number is not automatically the most suitable plan. Ask how the proposal protects the donor area and allows for future hair loss.

Recovery and possible problems

The scalp can be sore, swollen or scabbed after treatment. Risks include bleeding, infection, a reaction to anaesthetic, scarring and grafts not taking as hoped. Transplanted hair can shed before new growth appears, and the eventual result takes time. Discuss the expected course and the limitations with your surgeon.

Get specific instructions on washing, protecting the treated area, returning to work, exercise and travel. Do not assume that being discharged means you are ready to fly or spend the day sightseeing. The clinic should explain when it needs to review you and how you can obtain advice once you are home.

If you develop severe pain or unexpected symptoms, contact the treating clinical team promptly. Seek local urgent or emergency care when necessary rather than waiting for a reply to a website enquiry.

Planning the stay

Before booking, confirm the appointments, any need for a companion and what happens to payments and travel arrangements if surgery is delayed or not recommended.

Common questions

What if the clinician advises against a transplant?

Ask about the alternatives and take time to consider them. Before paying, check which assessment fees would still be due and what would happen to any deposit or travel booking if surgery did not go ahead.

Can I fly home straight after the procedure?

The first few days can bring scalp soreness and swelling, and newly transplanted grafts need careful protection for about two weeks. Your journey must fit the aftercare and review plan. Confirm with your treating clinician when you can fly before booking, and leave room for a longer stay if recovery changes. A package’s departure day is not medical clearance.

Will a transplant stop further hair loss?

No. Hair around the transplanted area may continue to thin. The design needs to take that possibility into account, and the supply of donor hair is limited. Discuss longer-term hair-loss care as well as the first procedure.

Look beyond the technique name

Compare the responsible clinician and the steps in the proposal, rather than choosing by the technique label alone.
